Goodshed Restaurant Ipoh

Just mention 'Goodshed Restaurant' and many Ipoh folk especially the more senior ones will recall how this restaurant together a couple of old style mamak restaurants were thriving in Ipoh. I remember the days when Ipoh had these famous restaurants such as Rahman Restaurant, Federal Muslim Restaurant and the Goodshed Restaurant.  The previous two have folded up and leaving only Goodshed Restaurant to stand the test of time.
The notable dishes were Murtabak, Ayam Roast, Kambing Kurma, Nasi Biryani and many others.  I have been patronising the Goodshed Restaurant for many years when I was in Ipoh and the owner, Mr. Akhbar, knows my family very well.  On my recent trip back to Ipoh, my family and I decided to drop by at the Goodshed Restaurant for nostalgic reasons and when Mr. Akhbar saw me, he was pleasantly surprised and called my name out loud and started to chat with us and also giving some fatherly advice to my boys. Thats how close we were.  The restaurant still packs a reasonable crowd of ' old faithfuls ' and we can be considered that too.

This is Mr. Akhbar, the proud owner of
Goodshed Restaurant.

Their famous Ayam Roast

Crab curry, another popular dish.

We had brunch there as we had an early breakfast at another place in Ipoh Garden upon arrival in Ipoh. It was nice being able to catch up with Mr. Akhbar and his family at the restaurant.  I will definitely head to Goodshed Restaurant whenever I'm in Ipoh.  For those not familiar, the Goodshed Restaurant is located at the railway godowns of Ipoh along St. John's Road just before reaching Silibin.
